IEP's to gifted students based solely on being gifted... Do you think it's a good idea?
With the large number of concerns voiced regularly by parents based on their lived experience, some may ask: At what cost, both financially and in terms in of a public school system wrestling control from parents, essentially screening parents out of educational decisions?
Based upon themes which come up frequently in discussion threads, how would "gifted" be defined for this purpose? How would identification take place?
Would this effort be paired with other new or existing reform efforts?
Would local control of schools remain in place, or would this represent a move toward nationalizing the education system?
Would this be publicly funded or possibly through industries such as curriculum providers, test publishers, or psychological counseling associations or organizations?
Families may want to be informed of likely implications and ramifications. It is wise not to sign a blank check.
