My son is being considered for the gifted program in Florida. He is currently in a private Kindergarten, but will be going to a public school for first grade. We had his IQ test done by a private psychologist, and he scored 136 (in Florida you must score above 130). His current teacher was also asked to complete the Renzulli-Hartman checklist, and I was told that he must "demonstrates a majority of gifted characteristics as measured by a checklist." My question is, what does that mean? There are 36 characteristic on this checklist, and the teacher can select "Almost Always", "Frequently", or "Seldom" for each. She selected Almost Always for 9 of them, Seldom for 6 of them, and Frequently for the remainder. Does that qualify as the "majority"? Or, does he have to have Almost Always selected for the majority? I just feel like this is so subjective, and there were a lot of them for which the teacher selected Frequently and a couple for which she selected Seldom, and I would have picked Almost Always. Thoughts? Thanks for your help!
