After a long delay of more than a year and DS's increasingly worse handwriting and reluctance in reading higher level books, I made an appointment with a developmental vision specialist. Yesterday, I took him to see a regular optometrist just to get his vision report before our appointment with the specialist. After a long session, it was confirmed DS has "Accommodative Vision Deficiency"! Such a mixed feeling about this diagnosis.... 1. We know something is wrong and we've tried everything to help him. Nothing has worked to improve his reading, writing and attention. Finally there is something to work on that might help him learning better. 2. Feeling guilty. Why did I wait until now while I see him struggle all these years. 3. We have vision check ups every year. how come it wasn't detected in the previous tests!

This recent thread discusses differences between developmental vision specialists, annual screenings, and annual visits to an eye doctor.

There are many threads discussing vision... it may be a comfort to know that you are not alone.
