cee, there are online high schools that provide official transcripts, but whether or not those transcripts will be recognized for either placement or actual high school credit in a public high school is totally dependent on your local school district.

True-- but public and accredited online schools, the answer is mostly that they are treated like any other school transcripts.

In other words, administration will match up requirements and try to parse out which course equivalents have already been taken, etc.

This sounds like us. We are also in a large metropolitan area and what you have described is the norm here and has been for decades. Moving to a smaller, 'better' district for us has pros and cons, of course. The better suburban districts, for example, are more likely farther away from the great culture of the city. Also, that sports philosophy is prevalent all over the place. As far as I have experienced, we are always in the minority. Since you do not have access to gifted classes, I would talk to the principal about a gifted individualized education plan, so that your child could work on special projects with teacher supervision. Just because you send your child to a private school does not mean that those children will be gifted counterparts; they usually just have wealthier parents and that socioeconomic class has its own set of problems (think Paris Hilton, for example). Planning for the future, look at colleges that have on-line programs that perhaps would accept a gifted child and then your child could have excellent classes at home. I think more and more universities are on-line. Good Luck!

What I was trying to say and might not have been clear about is that it's the public school's choice (or any school's choice) re whether or not they choose to accept the outside course as either credit or placement or nothing. Our experience so far with our particular school district has been we've run into a real brick wall re willingness to accept credit from other institutions for placement (I haven't even broached the subject of requesting actual credit hours).

Yeah-- sorry to not be clear; it's not that they'd be cooperative with ANY other transcripts. Just that it doesn't seem to matter that they are online or B&M.

    wink
