Hi all, I will meet for the first time the gifted support teacher at DS's IEP meeting on Monday. The program is just a one hour twice a week pull-out (the goals and such are laid out in DS's draft iep that I have)... but I am just wondering if there are any questions I should ask?

One question you might ask is whether your son will be cluster grouped with others of similar readiness and ability.
Also whether his work products will come home, to keep you in the loop.
You may wish to bring the questions another poster recently shared.

    May I suggest
    1) Read all you can about advocacy prior to the meeting.
    2) Come prepared to the meeting. Have a copy of his IEP, and a clipboard or business for staying organized and taking notes. During the meeting, write everything down, jot a list of attendees, etc.
    3) Ask clarification on each point made (active listening: put their statements into other words and into a question format). This can be important because so often depending upon different knowledge base and vocabulary, need to decipher "eduspeak", etc there can be a vast difference between "what they said" and "what I heard".
    4) Do not be pressed into giving any answers on-the-spot, but reply that is a good question, something you'd like to think about and reflect on before getting back to them.
    5) Thank them for their time and their interest in supporting your son's appropriate placement and pacing of curriculum.
    6) Ask about next steps: when you'll meet again as his support team to discuss how well things are working.

I would also use part of the time to get to know this person, their background and perspective. Knowing how he or she "sees" things can be very useful. We have been very fortunate with the gifted coordinator at DS school but it sounds like some are much more achievement than meeting needs focused.

This assumes you don't already have a good read on this from other sources.
