Great point. I wish they didn't cost so much. My son loves testing..I would just do them all!

Durn, wish I'd called them sooner!

I just spoke with Davidsons. The woman I spoke with said if we wanted to, we *could* start by just sending in work samples and didn't need to get testing done right away. Wish I'd have known that! Ah, well. Live and learn, and people, call!

She also said that we didn't need new letters, didn't need to send in a full application -- just an update with any new information.

Still looking at doing the WISC, though, to satisfy personal curiosity. crazy I spoke with a tester this morning who works with one of our local public schools and has tested kids for Davidson before; I liked her a lot and think we'll probably go that route.

As for doing the WIAT at the same time, Dottie -- quite honestly, it's not in the budget at this point. I don't think his scores will have gone far in either direction -- or, I should say, I don't think they'll have dropped since his math has taken off in the last few months and he's out of his mind with the reading (in a good way). I could be wrong, but they were pretty high to begin with and, since a big reason for retesting is Davidson's (his school could care less about our private results), I think we'll leave good enough alone there.

I don't post over here much, although read, but I think the above sounds like a very good plan. And yes... I think the RPG stuff is very pertinent. With my daughter, her interests have always had a very strong non-academic element to them. When I think about it... I think that can be very pertinent for areas such as science, where while in higher levels there is a strong math element, in the early years that isn't the focus, but the love/intensity of interest in those non-academic areas that they explore in their entirety can feed into the exploration of areas like science....it's all about ideas, and not the math/reading. Not sure I'm being clear at all, but I think between retest, and add in items like RPG, that would be helpful.

I disagree. My DS got in with a rec from a teacher he met at a saturday class for 90 minutes. What was useful, I think, was that I talked the organizers into letting him in with the +1 and +2 age group because he was interested in the topic. Because I was getting a lot of "He has ADHD" flak from the school at that time, I stopped in afterwards to see how his behavior was. The two teachers were pull out program teachers from a few towns over. They seemed to have enjoyed DS11, so I let slip his real age. They continued to say nice things, so I got an address, and an agreement to write a letter and sent over a form. Let's face it, if a kid is standing out amoung regular-gifted kids - it might take a while to notice, but for outgoing kids, it only takes about 15 minutes.

    My .02$ anyway,
    Grinity
