    Volunteering! I babysat two kids one summer, who were about the ages of your kids. I took them to an animal shelter 3x a week where they cleaned cages, walked the dogs and did some laundry. They got some great experience and perspective there, they were productive and helpful and they were inspired to go home and learn about different breeds, health problems, animal care, etc.

    I just thought of something else...Home Depot has building classes for kids on Saturday here. For every project you do you get a project pin to pin on your Home Depot apron.
