I just posted this in the brag post but I think this deserves a post of it's own. DS3.1 ... the one I was posting about that we are suspecting some sort of anxiety issue FINALLY read for me! I've known he can read words and probably more than that for awhile now but he'd always read only behind the door to his room and in front of other people even us he hardly talks, not to mention reads anything. And just now for the first time ever he sat in my lap, opened his new I Spy alphabet book and read for me ... "I spy balloons on the letter B, and snow white ice on an ice cold C." turns a few pages and reads "I spy jewels on the letter J, and bright red kites on the letter K" ... nice fluent reading! No hiccups other than having trouble pronouncing the word balloons. There was no second guessing, just plain reading. And he was as comfortable as it gets! No anxiety or stress
HUGE leap forward for him!!!
Now I need someone to tell me if this qualifies for any sort of "level" of reading? Kindergarten maybe? I have no idea, I'm just excited he's coming out of hiding!!!!!
just to add, I know he's been reading 2nd and 3rd grade word lists on my Kindle so I don't think there is any way of telling on what level his reading is but I'm still excited no matter what! He's my autistic kid who was assessed at 6-9 months nonverbal comprehension level 4 months ago and about the same age for verbal and I was told he probably would never talk and to just use pictures. And now he's speaking in sentences (when he feels like it) and can read out loud? Kicking some serious 2E butts here
