My DS7 took the KBIT2 for screening into the gifted program. His composite score was 129, just missing the cutoff of 130. We suspect ADHD and the school is doing a full evaluation. After meeting with the school psychologist, she said his IQ composite was 110 (I am not sure if she said this was on the WISC or RIAS, I think it was the RIAS). She explained this as the second test is more comprehensive and the KBIT2 just happened to hit our son's strengths. We are waiting the for the final report next week. We were shocked by such a big difference. Has anyone else has such a wide range in scores?

Some tests also have a "brief" version that can be administered to an individual child in 15-20 minutes, e.g. the K-BIT (Kaufman Brief Intelligence Test). Brief tests are designed as screening measures, to determine which students should proceed to a full evaluation. Schools and districts sometimes use these brief measures as the only evaluation, resulting in an incomplete assessment of the gifted children. Brief measures have so few questions that they can result in scores that do not correlate well to full intelligence tests.

KBIT is really just appropriate as a screening measure. If the measure which provided the "other" score is a WISC then it would have been a long individually administered assessment and would be the more reliable measure of your child's IQ. If the "other" score is a RIAS then you are just seeing the variability of these short IQ screeners. They really aren't suitable to use like a full assessment.

Thanks for the responses. I found out 2nd test was a WISC IV full scale assessment. We will get the full report with subscores in a few days. I had read other studies that found high correlation between KBIT2 and WISCIV, but I guess hoagies says not so. We were just surprise with a 19 point difference, thinking it might be a red flag for LD, but the school seems to want to totally disregard the KBIT2 as an inaccurate test in my son's case. Which begs the question, why administer it at all? I think we now have more questions than before.
