My dd in Gr 6 is taking CTY's Flexi-Paced "The Process of Writing". It is advertised as being equivalent to a Gr. 11 course.

I'm not sure that I would agree with that, but it is certainly a well-designed and exciting course. The advanced part of it seems to be that students must be able to read several pages of instructions from different sources and put it all together in order to understand the lessons.

The instructor is wonderful in providing lots of detailed advice and comments. Her suggestions are positive and very specific and sandwiched between lots of authentic, detailed praise.

I would highly recommend it for Gr. 6-8 students who either enjoy writing or who would like to enjoy writing!

Interesting study. Honestly, sometimes I think that the way school is now, the material is so dried of and dumbed down that is probably a poor fit for most kids, just more so for gifted kids.
