    Hello,

I have a question about the scoring of WJ-III. My son had this done last spring. He was finishing up K and was 6 years old at the time of testing. On the top it said his correct age, but grade level was 1.9 (1st grade 9th month?) which was a full grade level higher than his actual grade. So my question is how is the SS calculated? Is it calculated by age or grade level? Would the correct grade level change his SS?

    Thanks!

At the top do you see something that says, "Norms based on ____"? That would tell you whether the standard scores you have were done by age or grade level.

I've heard age norms should be used unless the student has been retained. In my daughter's case, all her standard scores were different when using age norms vs. grade norms so you might want to just ask the tester for a printout of both. It should be pretty simple for them to do.
