There are exceptions one can wonder about, but in general a company that produces goods and services for paying customers is more likely to be rendering a public service than a government agency telling people what to do or even a non-profit that does things people are not willing to pay for.
Seriously? You really

I am also dubious of young people going to foreign countries they know little about and trying to solve their problems. I know these are debatable propositions which are consistent with a certain political philosophy, but this is what I will tell my children.
She didn't say what that she was in Thailand trying to "solve other people's problems." Personally, I was teaching English, and so were my friends. The Thais were thrilled to have us, and no one was trying to "solve their problems," apart from maybe the problem they had saying the letter V ("Say it like a voiced F, not a W!") We were learning as much from the Thais as they were learning from us.
