This board is always very helpful when I post, so TIA for any advice and/or insight.

DD will be 8 tomorrow and she's in 2nd grade. She took her MAP Reading test today and says her score (which popped up on the screen at the end of the test) was 213. She has a good memory, so I trust the number. However, she apparently isn't showing much improvement since Spring (only a 4 pt increase) and here are her prior scores:

    Spring 2012 (1st grade) 209 (99th%ile)

    Fall 2011 (1st grade) 196 (99th%ile)

DD is a voracious reader and has been reading since before age 4. She reads at least an hour a day, often much more, and reads many of her brothers' advanced books, though I have to be careful about what she gets her hands on. However, I must admit that I don't spend much time (if any...sigh) talking with her about what she's reading, what it means to her, what she thinks of the plot, how she might end the book if she were the writer...etc.

Should I be concerned about the minimal increase? She read all the time during the Summer, attended a morning camp focused on academics for "gifted" 2nd graders, and has virtually no screen time nor the desire for screen time. So she wasn't sitting in front of a TV over the Summer. She also had a good day at school, as far as I know, so she wasn't sick or stressed today. I'm just concerned and would welcome thoughts/insight. Thanks!

Personally, I would be THRILLED with an increase from spring to fall! Most kids (my dd8 included) lose RIT points over the summer. DS6 on the other hand gained (we think) about 5 points.

Agree with the previous poster. This is normal.

It's normal to show only modest growth over the summer, or no growth at all, or a slight loss. MAP scores seem to show that an average performance difference spring to fall is no change.

For reading, that's a score at the 78th-79th percentile (indicating that you did better than approximately 78% of test takers at your grade level), for math 77th-78th percentile, and for language use 83rd-84th percentile. Those are solid above-average scores, which indicate that you should be able to cope with the subject material in your classes without much difficulty.
