My DD6 just finished first grade and her Fall Math MAP was 193, Winter 194, and Spring 192. But, that went from a 99th percentile to an 85th percentile. So, I am thinking (and have always worried) we're not enriching math enough for her. I'd love to provide her with something she could do that doesn't feel "honeworky" this summer. And something that is preferably not online. I was kind of hoping for maybe a game?? That would include math skills?? Any suggestions?

As for reading, she was 208 in the fall and 206 in the winter, but 229 in the spring. And of course I cannot keep the girl in books! But, at least I know what to do for a high reader (I think). I do not honestly know how to TEACH her anything as she's pretty much been self-taught her entire life! Oh and she doesn't really go for mom-as-teacher anyway.

    Thanks!

We liked computer software from The Critical Thinking Company- maybe Math Detective or one of the logic games like Mindbenders. My kids also really enjoyed Beestar for several years. I don't know why, but it didn't really feel like homework to them. The gifted math is really interesting.

These kinds of things don't necessarily correlate directly to classroom math - not like a bridge summer book - but I've found that the kids enjoyed them and their foundation for math and critical thinking really strengthened.

Thanks! I will check them out. smile

I also had an idea! If I could find books on girls who love math I bet she'll get a bit more interested? She always sort of takes an interested in what the characters in her books like -- ya know? Hmmm...

You can afterschool her for math, or buy something like ALEKS if she likes working alone. At school, I think you should advocate for a grade skip or at least subject pullouts.

ETA: I like your newly coined word "honework", even if it was a typo. smile
