Is there a list anywhere of recommended testers? And is there an average cost of testing? We are ready to move forward with private testing for DD who is 6. Thanks!

Prices depend on where you go and what test you need and even on if you want professional advice or just test results.

We chose our tester off the Hoagies website. She was also highly recommended by our local gifted schools.

We tested with Dr. Silverman & Bobbie Gilman at GDC. It was appx $2000 for the WISC & WJ.

As did we. DS was 7 at the time and had a great experience there.

It really, really depends on what you need. Do you already data showing a gifted child and you just need a report? Do you suspect some hidden 2E issues? Are you looking to establish a relationship with an ed.psych for ongoing consulting or just get testing done? Does your child relate better to a man or woman, younger or older?

We used a local educational psychologist who does identification for two local school districts when they have a child who is on the cusp using CoGAT or NNAT. She also runs a private practice. We were able to get a WISC and WIAT for about $600, including two long reports, two hours of phone consultation regarding the reports and several other emails back and forth with follow up questions for placement.

If you have complex issues that you need testing to tease out the answers, then I suggest you find someone who is familiar with those issues. Aimee Yermish or Dr. Amend are great for 2E but if you don't need that kind of evaluation, that might be a long way to go for a lot of money that would be better spent on enrichment activities.

Thanks SO much everyone. No, we aren't concerned with 2E issues, so it should be pretty straight forward. We've never had an IQ testing done before. So we just sort of want a basic first testing, and were hoping for something local. I think we found someone locally -- and I am just hoping for the best! smile
