Hi - I'm new to this forum and hope this is the right spot as I cannot find a thread regarding a large gap in IQ scores. My son had an IQ test at 8.6 years WISC IV.
Results were:
14,14, 13 = 121 Verbal
5, 8, 9 = 84 Perceptual Reasonin block design =5
10, 14 = 110 Working Memory
10, 4 = 83 Processing speed (Symbol Search = 4).
Full scale 101.
Major areas of difficulty = spatial reasoning and active visual search.
Developmental Test of Visual Motor Integration = 115.
Informal assessment of reading = 1+ year ahead and spelling = 2+ years ahead.
New school (he is now almost 10 years have suggested we apply for Opportunity Class - however, with such a large gap (39 points) I am very uncertain about whether this is the right type of environment for him.
Has anyone else had a child with similar weaknesses and strengths? all advice appreciated. We are in Australia.
NB when he was 5 years, we had an OT ax which showed a similar scatter of scores ranging from SS 12 for figure ground to SS of 2 for visual memory - all other scores were 7, 8, 10 and 12.
