    About how many hours a day did your kids spend asking questions in the continuous-why mode?

    All of the hours they were awake until they turned into teenagers. Then their questions morphed into why-nots.

    DD8 tends to just observe, then find books to look things up in...or now, her iPad...

    DD4y10m-Pretty much ALL DAY...She will come in say the most ridiculous sounding things like "Are you making dinner?", when CLEARLY I am, I have food out, pots and pans on the stove, etc. I realized her questioning is likely two fold...
    1-she wants to verify that pots on the stove, food on the counter, plates out, etc, does indeed mean I am cooking. She has a need to verify her fact collection and reasoning I guess...
    2-she wants me to give a minute by minute narrative of what I am doing. She wants me to say "Now I'm boiling the water for spaghetti", "Now I'm cutting the bread" and on and on. She is so not like the older one, doesn't like to read independently yet, so she asks a lot more questions

    I get excited when the library lets me know my books are ready for pickup...

    'k, thanks.

    I kinda figured that was going to be the answer.

    <sigh>

    I'm not sure because I didn't bother paying attention to the why questions that got asked while they talked in their sleep smile

    Are you including the repeat why's? Cause at least there you get to say, the answer is the same as yesterday. I can never decide if it's his way of making conversation or if he is really checking to see that the answer is still the same!
