My ds12, 6th grade, is beyond bored in his 6th grade science course, which is primarily geology - and he's very interested in geology, just can't stand the slow pace and not-in-depth level of the general class discussion. His school doesn't offer any options for science acceleration, and his teacher isn't adept at challenging kids who are thinking at a high level. DS is ok with the class projects and lab work, but he's beyond frustrated with the course textbook which he could have read and understood when he was in first grade. DS would like to get either a higher level text or access to online videos or an online course at a higher level that he could study after school for his own interest.

Any suggestions? I have my old college geology text books which could give him something to read, but he's much more into video coursework - he'd rather listen than read. OTOH, maybe there are textbooks on tape?

    Thanks for any suggestions!

    This might be useful:

ETA: It looks like MIT now has intro to geology in their open courseware.
