I wonder if somebody on the forum is capable of converting a WISC score to Canadian norms. I am new to the forum but I've notice that there are some knowledgeable people when it comes to WISC-IV.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I'm planning on moving back. We are not very thrilled with the Montgomery County Public School System. There is no flexibility around the curriculum when it comes to creativity. My son is 8 yrs old and interested in science; he reads Stephen Hawkin's History of time. He asks us to homeschool him so he can have time for reading and figuring out things becasue his teacher is obsessed with tests!The Canadian congregated classes seem to have a more interesting profile with time for collaboration and trust rather than standardization and competition. Classes in Canada have a higher degree of diversity. We see that the highly gifted classes are Asian dominant. 4 people put of 52 are non-asian. With all respect that I have for their hard working culture, I am not sure that's what I want for my son...

I don't know anything about the conversion etc but I just wanted to say I agree that Canadian schools (I was raised in Canada) are just run different than schools (especially ones in the deep south). It's not teach to the test as the one goal for the entire year, oh and lets not forget eyes forward, don't be different, act like sheep attitude;) <although that may be just where my kids all go to school currently>
Were those highly gifted classes you referenced as being Asian dominant where you are currently, or back in Canada? I would say they are probably only dominated in certain areas of Canada like that (Vancouver being one of them)I'm not sure that they would be truly "gifted" type schools though but more of high end, high academic type schools. Depending on the size of the community that your looking to return to, you would probably have many options that would be less of a pressure cooker etc (dual immersion schools etc)

The dominant Asian Highly Gifted center I am talking about is in Maryland. In Canada, Ontario, the school's population is really diverse. This is the Progress Report Card in Ontario http://www.edu.gov.on.ca/eng/document/forms/report/card/EPR_Public1to6.pdf
In Montgomery County Public School System, Maryland, one of the most regarded education systems in the US, they just give letter grades ( since K!). Comments are once in a while, but everyone is racing about the A!

If your not able to move, maybe a try at homeschooling? We are changing over to homeschooling next year with DS8, who will be starting 5th grade in fall.
