My DD had a SIT the other day and got 163 (8, 3rd) How well he is doing? How I can calculate IQ score from this?

Slosson Intelligence Test? Or some other measure?

If Slosson, that's got a mean of 100, a SD of 16, and a maximum score of 165. The result it gives is intended to be an IQish score (specifically for crystallized verbal intelligence).

The publisher reports good (0.83) correlation with WISC-III IQ scores, but this study (http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/002244058790029X) reports low correlation with IQ for gifted kids, and a significant overestimation of IQ for gifted kids compared to the WISC-R and SB (probably the L-M revision, given the study date).

Thanks for the information. Yes, it is slosson test. It sounds like the test score itself doesn't mean much.

    Hi SunScare:
    Welcome!
Was this test given at school? How's school going for your son?

No, that's a very good score, even if we assume inflation.

Hi herenow, Thanks for welcoming. My son just moved to the new school and the test was given by the GT teacher. I have a score but don't know how I can interprete that.
AlexsMom, thanks for the kind explnation.

I'm just talking off the top of my head here, but if the max score is 165 and your ds scored 163, it sounds like he pretty much hit the higher boundary of the test - a ceiling. If this is being used as a screening test for GT admittance, then I would hope he would get in!

If you decide to get further testing on your son at any time (like WISC IV and achievement testing), I would definitely seek out a tester with a lot of experience with gifted kids. We can help you find one if you decide to go that route.
