Ds8 has done some geocaching with his gifted program at school, and has enjoyed it, so I'm thinking of getting started doing it as a family. Any recommendations for hand held GPS units, books, web sites...?? Thanks ! Christmas is coming, so a great time to spend some money on him smile

I'd love more on this as well!! My dd used my iphone and a free app to geocache. It got her frustratingly close to the hiding place, but often not quite there. Wondering if paying for the app would improve the information she gets from the phone gps.

I believe the inaccuracy lies with the GPS itself, not the app.

We tried this recently and found the same thing--it does not get you that close. I talked to my husband, who uses GPS at work, and he explained that only the $1000+ units really have great accuracy.
