Hope this finds you all well! We have been super busy with the beginning of the school year and the grade skip and all that good stuff! Things are going really well - 1st grade was totally right for DS and he couldn't be happier!
Soooooo..... We scheduled the WISC as he has turned 6.... I am so nervous! I was just reaching out to see how others felt WISC scores compared to SBV scores for your kiddo's?? Still hoping to cross the elusive DYS threshold! I'm thinking MAYBE this time!!
    Anyone have any thoughts???

Lukemac - Glad to hear the grade skip is going really well and your DS is happy! As for WISC versus SB, I'm not sure what the difference is between the SBV and the SBLM but DS8 took both at 7 and they were within a few points of each other.
Best of luck with the scheduled testing and continued happiness for your son in 1st!

Hey amber! What did you decide to do??? The skip was the best move - he even lost a few teeth so he is fitting in visually!! Although much smaller!!

Hooray for the grade skip! DYS or not, you're doing a good job helping him be better challenged.

We are homeschooli right now. Well, I guess unschooling at the moment, non of the curriculum I chose has been the right level. Lol. He's an early kindergartener, so we have some time to work out the kinks. smile

Hi good luck with the WISC. With my kiddo she scored much better on the WISC than the SB5. I think there are a few reasons however. Her strength is verbal and not spatial. I think she is a bit dyslexic. We attended the SENG conference this year and I attended a few workshops on testing etc. One of them was by Nancy Robinson who said she would not use the SB5 with gifted kids. She thinks that even the verbal aspects of the test are sort of spatially slanted. I also think my kiddo scored better because she wanted to do the testing and the tester was gifted aware. Our first tester did not even tell us she had ceilinged the SB5 on one section... The gifted tester explained when I showed her the stuff..... Again good luck.

I can't spell or type... yipes

Thanks! Amber, so glad you made a decision - so brave!!!! What's the latest with your little one ??
So nervous that we will see lower scores on the WISC .... The countdown has begun! He's excited... He loves Getting tested so it's almost as good as having plans to go to Disney!!!

We had DD8 tested with the WISC IV at age 6. She too loves taking tests, so that was not an issue, but we did have a couple of issues that ended up being rather significant.
The tester was not used to testing gifted kids and DD hit the ceiling on a bunch of the subtests. The results were that she did not qualify for DYS. However, we got her retested this past spring, with a tester with lots of experience with gts and she ended up with a score that was 7 pts higher than the score at age 6, and qualified her for DYS.
The validity of the tests at age 6 is a bit questionable too. I just wanted to give you a caution about the possible outcomes.
    Good luck smile
