We visited our new school for our first grader. He starts on Monday. I found out that many of the children are identified gifted and they choose this Spanish/English dual language program because they are looking for programs that will challenge their children which is the same reason we have chosen it.
They said they are used to differentiating (English) reading as high up as 6th grade (my ds was reading 4th grade last year in K) and that they spend the first week getting the different levels sorted out for all the students in both English and Spanish. I am so glad that the children who choose to be in this program for the most part will be intellectual peers. And I feel like they really will be able to differentiate because he will have a total of 4 teachers. Two in the Spanish room at all times and two in the English room at all times (and there is a para that floats in there for pull outs for those needing extra, extra help).
