Ds7 (second grade) starts the 25th. We have to make an appointment (mandatory that we do so) for them to do a reading test for guided reading before the start of school. I actually think I like this better than wasting a week or two to test all the kids. I hope they do place her better this year. She ended grade 1 finishing level "o". She was in the same group all year (all second graders in her 1/2 multi grade class. They moved very slow through each book (a chapter each night).

DS10 and DD8 start on the 30th. Their district has them take reading/math placement at the end of the previous school year so they can start at an appropriate level. Both kids are looking forward to the school year.

My thoughts on the first week of school? I survived! I now have a ton of information on my 130 students, and I need to take some time to process it all. And prepare a quiz on cause and effect for Monday.

Our district, too. We're still in school shopping mode. Since I have a boy in mid-Early Puberty Growth Spurt and a girl who's discovered her inner fashionista, that's a lot of shopping.

This wasn't directed to me, but I guess not in our district either b/c dd10 will be placed in a 6th grade math class based on tests that were given btwn the end of 4th grade and about April of 5th grade.

My kids both start 8/19, which is a Friday. Their schools start for all students on 8/22, Monday, but they have the youngest grade in each school start the Friday before to have a chance to learn the routines w/out everyone else there. They'll be 6th and 9th graders, so middle and high school.

We start 8/15! The kids are excited...me not so much, but I never let the kids in on my pessimistic thoughts.
