This is so silly but I wondered if anyone else found this to be true. Our family of 4 went to Walt Disney World last week. It was the most mentally relaxed I've been in...oh...6 years. My children were docile. There were few questions. Abstract observations were rare. There was little need for information from them other than, "What are we going to ride next?"
We've been home for 4 days now and everything is back to normal around here. Lots of questions, talking, debate, information needed, experiments have been performed.
DH and I were laughing about how chill our little ones were while there, sensory overload kicking everything intellectual down a notch. I was grateful for my little vacation for my mind!
Has anyone else experienced something like this?

Well... my kids love Epcot the most, as it has the most intellectual stimulation. They are not big on rides, either. So it was not really a break in that respect for us. I just like having someone else cook and clean, and have lot of choices of things to do that I don't have to plan. Although we have only been a couple of times (expensive, and now we have "been there/done that"), I did find it very relaxing.

When we went to Disney World, it was a great opportunity to teach the kids about different cultures (while at Epcot), animals (animal kingdom), etc... Our kids had a lot of fun as well as they learned quite a bit too.

Even if your kids did not ask questions, they probably just soaked them in. If we encounter something that they did not know, I wouldn't miss that chance to explain to them (especially they are receptive). Well, they were only 5 and 7 at the time. Yours must be older.

We probably have absolute chill time on our vacation (just lying on the beach and enjoy the breeze) when the kids are in college. But I enjoyed all our family vacations nonetheless. This is part of parenthood and savoring everymoment while I can.

Disney is way too much for ME (I'm SPD-ish myself) but I know what you mean. For us, deep immersion in nature and hiking has had the same effect.

They certainly were soaking it all in. We've talked of nothing else since! I just thought it was a hoot that almost all questions stopped while we were there, everyone was so chill. smile

I'll have to try hiking with them next, I'm no nature girl but I bet I could find a nice trail to have a picnic along around here. smile Thanks for the idea!

    Interesting!

I notice that travel/novelty in general does that for my LO! He thrives on new experiences...
