We had dd10's final teacher conference and it seems like 4th grade was a good fit for her, and next year looks to be as well. She is in a combined 4th/5th class (this year there were also 2 (gifted) 6th graders).

She did mostly 5th grade work in all subjects and her teacher is happy to continue to challenge her and dd was thrilled to know she will officially be doing 6th grade math, and the school will continue to have the part-time algebra teacher come even if just for dd.

The teacher was also very excited about dd's Explore results and I think that helped her see just how much dd is capable of. She was in the 99th% on the 4th grade Terra Nova in all subjects.

The only negative is that I had thought we could keep dd at this school for 6th grade as well if we hadn't moved by then, but the teacher thinks that at that point she will need to move on. (And there is simply no good option for her to move on to where we are currently).

Very happy for my daughter and thankful we have been fortunate with her schooling so far!

Wonderful news! So exciting! Sad that you won't be able to keep her there for 6th grade, but better to know know and be able to start looking.

Thanks ya'll! Of course, I just heard a rumour that the teacher may not be coming back. Argh! Of course there are other good teachers out there--and I don't think it should be that difficult to accomodate my dd regardless of who the teacher is...right? (multi-age 4th/5th grade class with <15 kids, I think at least 1/3 gifted, with a full-time assistant)

Ugh. I was too late to celebrate the good news.
