My son, who is 6, is in a bilingual 1st grade program (French and English). French is his stronger language from years spent in France.
In French 1st grade, they teach more through memorization/repitition, whereas in English class it's phonics. I thought the latter would be by far the better method. However, my son is cruising ahead in French reading, but not getting phonics!
Is this normal? Are some kids just not meant for phonics. He's particularly strong in math as well. Whether this has any bearing on how he would best learn to read, I don't know...
Thanks!
