We did a last minute trip Feb 09 during spring break. We flew to New Orleans and took a cruise ship to Costa Maya, (where we saw Mayn ruins) Guatemala (where we went on a 7 hour trip (to the Seven Altars waterfall, then down the river to see Mayan villages, wildlife, the scenery. We saw 100s of pelicans in one spot. We ran into the Mayan children in their dug outs bringing sea life they had captured to show us. Then we went to Belize, went snorkeling and "swam with stringrays". That was cool -- my daughter was 4. Then we went to Cozumel and went to a beach resort (pass for the day) where they had the best tidal pools with anemones, more snorkeling and iguanas running around. There was a little beach on this cove right across from a playground. And, they also had dolphin interactions, including swimming with them. You have to be 8 or something to swim and my daughter has only done the dolphin ineractions where you stand on a platform and dance with them.

I really did this last minute and the cruise (with balcony room was just less than 2000 and the airfare is what you can get. But to New Orleans during Feb break was not bad.
