Dabrowski wasn't mentioned in my college level psyh classes - I never hear of him until I stumbled into the gifted world. My hunch is that he's just starting to be translated into English, and that over the next 20 years 'Theory of Positive Disintegration' may become more popular. Or may not, since brain based explanations are so popular right now.

If you had asked the psychologist - how does my son's testing relate to the work of Freud - I'll bet you'd get funny looks as well.

But if the Psychologist presents themselves as 'familiar with Giftedness' that's another story entirely. It says a lot about their frame of reference - that it's very different that the one we have here.

BTW - I just got this notice about a Dabrowski Conference:

The website also has a tentative schedule, rates for the conference hotel (Pheasant Run Resort), and contact information for a travel agent who can help make arrangements for you. In the future, we will be posting the conference program so you will be able to see the diverse and exciting offerings available at the conference.

We have also set up a Facebook Event for the conference called, International Dabrowski Conference 2010, to facilitate communication among attendees. It is also a place where you can find others to share travel or rooms. It is a closed event, so you must request an invitation to gain access.

Please forward this information to others who may be interested. If you have any questions about the conference, please do not hesitate to contact me or Michele Kane, your conference co-chairs at cma@udel.edu or michelekane1@aol.com.

We look forward to seeing you in July!
