We had discussed a grade skip but could not get every one on the same page with that so they recommened to send her to 1st for her academics and then back to K for specials, lunch, etc. (You can see why the grade skip never happened....they were worried about the "social" aspect of it) That was okay with us but the plan has not followed thru very well. Half the time it never happens because the teacher forgets or 1st grade is doing something different. I don't feel that she will get the challenge that she needs if I continue with the school she is currently at. That is why I am looking into alternatives and need some advice.
Hi Tiger -
I wish there was a perfect school, but even schools of the same philosophy vary widely in the application of that philosophy.

It isn't that your advocacy failed - it's that NOW it is time to go back and tell the schoolies what you just told us and pleasently insist that now is the time for a trial move to full day 1st grade. Now is a perfectly fine time to skip into first grade. You can always change schools over the summer if this doesn't work out.

Now that your child has spent plenty of time in first, you can stress how comfortable they are with the teacher and the wonderful friends she has made in first grade.

First start by praising that they were willing to try plan A, then tell them that since they were so cooperative in the past, you just know that they will be willing to try plan B. If things go well, they will walk out of the meeting thinking that they were planning to do this all along.

Love and More Love,
Grinity
