I am tending to answer more straight up now. It took me a while. One thing I've noticed in our case really is if someone asks directly, they usually know something about being gifted. Often they are or have a child that is or something.
I think that's probably very well what was going on for me. I just wasn't prepared for it and if I had thought about it for a second before I answered, I might have responded differently. I'll try to think of a good answer for the future.
Nobody's really asked me this yet besides our pediatrician. We've had a lot of "she's so smart/advanced" etc. but since she's not in daycare or preschool or anything I guess there hasn't been as many opportunities for comparisons.
