Yay! After much waiting and some not-so-great Cogat scores, the better looking WISC IV scores and other info on ds8, he has been found eligible for the p.s. gifted program for 4th-12th grade, in Language arts. (no further testing needed for a long time...whew)

This should be a real boon to ds on both academic and social fronts...we have been worried that if he doesn't stay in the program (the one he is in stops after 3rd grade when re-testing is done) he would loose touch with the couple of kids he has connected with, and he certainly enjoys the work/puzzles/outside-the-box thinking they get to do in the class!

Who knows how we'll all feel in a few months, but for now a huge relief! And, in a recent meeting with various school folks, sounds like some harder work in math will be possible for him even if it isn't officially 'gt' level. They laughed when I suggested he would be stuck working at the same pace as a 50th percentile child because he only scored '90th percentile' on the math part of his recent Wisc - no, definitely not, they said. Hopefully we will all continue to have good communication and ds will be really challenged at a decent level in all areas...
