Howdy all!
I don't know if I can do the board thing without using names, but it looks like nobody uses any here, so I will try my best. :-)
We are applying for membership in DYS for our DS6, and we also have DD2 who will be DD3 next month. DS6 learned to read about the time he turned 2, starting with numbers at about 18mo and going from there. By 3, he could read anything you put in front of him, and believe me, people tried everything just to watch! After taking the WJIII achievement tests at the end of preschool, he skipped kindergarten and went into first grade this year (his birthday is only 5 days past the cutoff that would have put him in first grade anyway) where it is up and down. His teacher does a great job of keeping him busy while giving him a chance to learn to get along with the kids. It's tough because he has his expectations as to how they should behave and how things should happen, and kids are kids so they usually frustrate him. But he's learning to handle it.
I have read the entire "brag thread", and I must say it's odd to hear about so many kids like mine--he's just a normal kid in this place!
DD2 is a sharp little cookie, but her brain works in an entirely different way from DS6's. She learns by hearing and is a natural mimic, but she isn't interested in reading or looking at words and numbers. My brain works like his, visually, and I don't even know what to do with a brain like hers. We shall see.
Anyway, this has become a very long-winded introduction when all I started out to do was say Hi! So Hi!
