Questions:
- should we schedule other tests to confirm these results?
- should we try to get him in private school? Or, will our school district gifted program be sufficient to provide what he needs?
wow New to Me,
Those are amazing scores even for YSP. Be sure to ask your family consultant to set up a phone consult with Dr. Ruf and some other similar families when you do get in.
I think that an achievement test would be useful for educational planning, and get ready for your DS to be taking the SATs around age 9 or 10 to qualify for a program called SET, which is even more selective than YSP.
I wouldn't expect any private school to have 'roomfuls' of kids like your child, so it's pretty much a toss up on which school is more willing to be flexible. I strongly reccomend sitting in a classroom for 40 minutes or so in several grades and seeing what the kids are actually doing. It's an eye-opener. You child is really really far, testwise, from the mean, and even from the average gifted. This idea of LOG, level of giftedness has been around but ignored for many years, but lately, some wonderful growth in understanding has occured in the gifted community around this idea. Sadly - it hasn't penetrated the schools in many places.
Looking at those scores, my first thought was, 'I bet this kid remembers every slight he ever recieved.' I can't wait to hear from you on the 'parenting' forum....
Love and More Love,
Grintiy
