DS4 is interesting because he started off with a big reading burst (before 2yo) and he picked it up quick and reads wonderfully, also was big into music as well and playing songs. He reads just about anything and can read on his own (typically likes either poetry like shel silverstein, magic schoolbus or treehouse books). I can count on one hand how many times in the last year he has stumbled over a word, even when he has never seen the words in his life. But yet despite all that he doesn't read tons any more. He always liked Math too, but at about 3yo or so he started into math. He is now much more into math and math games (and computers) than reading. Obviously he has to read to navigate instructions and things like that, ...and he is into a few big word games now. We still read together at night and he will occasionally pick up a book to read, but math (mostly multiplication) is definitely his thing now and the reading is on hold. I guess they just go in spurts at times.
