FYI, I just ordered from that site. You have to be registered through Scholastic as a homeschooler, so I called and the agent overrode it. I told her I partial homeschooled and she said it would be no problem.
Then I got a call back telling me that because they are "federally regulated" I could not have my order place because they attended public school.
I eventually talked her into to placing my order, but I don't think she is setting me up to be able to place future orders online, FYI.
I wonder what kind of FEDERAL regulations allow a company to sell educational materials to parents who homeschool, but not to parents who send their child to public school? Isn't this denying a parents right to educate their child in the best manner possible? I wonder how we can find out about this?
It is kind of weird. I'm with 'Neato, though, that I'll bet it was one person. I selected "homeschooler" from the list and had no trouble. I bought nearly $50 worth of materials, and I didn't have to deal with a human being at all.
BTW, Schlastic's teacher's resources and family activites pages are pretty spectacular! If you're registered, you get free access, and there's some really wonderful material there. A play based on the "Winn Dixie" story, make your own
Charlotte's Web comic strip, what would you have built at the WTC site if you were New York's mayor, etc. I was quite impressed and plan to use the site a lot this spring!
Thanks SO MUCH for the tip! It's a gift that keeps on giving.
