He knows I think about him and give him choices. Then I have a great excuse to periodically say we need to get together to make some decisions or discuss.
DS12 actually thanked me recently, for the thought I put into him. I think I was offering to put his music for school into a binder that struck me as particularly apt. It was cool because I was expecting a 'leave me alone' and for sure he didn't want to follow my suggestion. But it did tip me off that I was WAY more interested in 'physical organization of the environment' than he was, and should back off.
