What is Math League? Where does it fit in with the other various competitions out there?

The Math League has been around since 1977. Fourth Grade, Fifth Grade, and Algebra are intramural contests, but you can submit scores. Sixth Grade, Seventh Grade, Eight Grade, and High School Contests participants rank regionally or at the state level. You take the contest at your school (homeschoolers can participate but must take it at a school for official scores) and submit scores for regional/state results. Contests can be taken as pencil and paper or online.

The Math League is not as tough as MOEMS, the AMC 8, or MATHCOUNTS, but even our gifted students find some of the problems challenging. Students can also compete up. We had a seventh grader on the High School team this year, and three 6th graders took the Algebra contest this year. All of them did well, but no one had a perfect score. The best way to decide if this is a good contest for your child is to look at the sample contests.
