It's a good idea for my DD9, because it's the IEP that unlocks access to the gifted services. Without it, school would not be an acceptable solution.
Her IEP contains the number of hours each week she goes to gifted pull-outs, which basically constitute half her school day. It also has some airy-fairy nonsense about how they're going to work on two of her areas of strength... stuff like "critical reasoning," "research abilities," etc. It's nonsense because it's unmeasurable, but whatever. As long as the instructional quality is up to snuff, they can pat themselves on the back at the end of the year if they want to.
