I agree with you Ania about the competitions. DS11 competed in his first one this spring and he was suprised at the complexity. He is so used to breezing through math tests. He did well but not as well as he thought he would.
This is the way to go. Believe me , you want to do this now and not in high school, when your child begins to fail!
When we hired a math teacher this past fall we decided not to use a text book. For a lot of the sessions the teacher brings old math competition tests and he and DS spends the hour trying to solve them. I really feel that DS is gettting way more out of this than following page by page in a book,
Another Bravo - I envy you being able to have a private teacher. How did you go about finding one?
