Frustrating!
Is this the first time that your DH has gone? I remember that you have had several P/T conferences in that past and nothing that you really mention here strikes me as "setting up for the next meeting". It seems like stonewalling.
Can you talk to DS about slowing down? I've tried mentioning to DS5 that it he doesn't show them that he knows it they will assume that he doesn't know it. If he wants anything to change he has to do something to let them know he wants it to change. I'm not sure he completely understands but he does seem to think about it and I have seen a little change in him in class.
