We gave up on DS almost four's gifted preschool and opted for a completely
Play based school. So far we all love it. It is the oldest school in town, ds's
Teacher has been there for 31 years! Kids from 3 to 5 are all mixed together
And they never have any activity two days in a row. Most important of all; NO
CIRCLE TIME! DS favorite classes are gardening and Drama.
We did not discuss with the director or teachers that DS tested as HG or any
Of his talents. He usually is a hider but on the second day he was there his
Homeroom teacher me me at the door at pick up time and told me he was a pleasure to have in class and that she had discovered that he reads as well
As she does. ( of course he does not but it got her point across). She let him read a Halloween book to the class and he read it Fluently with inflection and then asked his clssmates comprehension questions. She then asked if we knew how extremely unusual it was that he could do that. It should be interesting when DS starts lecturing about Greek myths and ancient civilizations!
It certainly makes our life easier that the teacher made the discovery herself.
Everyone thinks we are crazy if we tell them about his abilities and interests.
Sure hoping he continues to like this school!!
