My DS was writing at 11 months. He would stand at the easel and painstakingly write out each letter over and over until he was satisfied. That was the first thing that no amount of denial would cure.

It was at about 4 that I realized just how extreme he was. After our school district refused early admit to K and needing to earn an income, I purchased an old montessori school and turned it into a pre-school. I homeschooled him and he could hang with the other kids when he wanted to.

The guinea pig had babies and he wanted to know how. Being an accomplished "googler" he went looking for information. That night at dinner he explained the entire reproductive process to my partner and I. It was all very clinical. But he didn't stop there. He now understood that he was biological to only one of us since reproduction required a male of the species. He guessed that he was in fact my son because of shared characteristics and asked that we address the matter of who his father was. Explaining a sperm bank to a 4 yo.... The whole thing was surreal and the day I realized that I was in for a hell of a ride!

Fast forward to today. He has 8th grade science and his teacher approached me about the fact that she would be teaching a unit on sex education this semester. She was concerned because of his age. I had to laugh and tell her that he could teach the unit!
