When we went to Disney World, it was a great opportunity to teach the kids about different cultures (while at Epcot), animals (animal kingdom), etc... Our kids had a lot of fun as well as they learned quite a bit too.
Even if your kids did not ask questions, they probably just soaked them in. If we encounter something that they did not know, I wouldn't miss that chance to explain to them (especially they are receptive). Well, they were only 5 and 7 at the time. Yours must be older.
We probably have absolute chill time on our vacation (just lying on the beach and enjoy the breeze) when the kids are in college. But I enjoyed all our family vacations nonetheless. This is part of parenthood and savoring everymoment while I can.
