Hi
I posted awhile back about the crazy hoops necessary to get into gifted K programs in NYC. DS5 bombed one test because he had an unidentified double ear infection which seemed to develop in the middle of the test! It was so upsetting because he only had one shot for that school. So then he had another test to take -and we got the results today - he got a 99 on the OLSAT - this doesn't mean anything in that the next step is a lottery for all the people getting 99's because there aren't enough seats - but it does mean he is guaranteed some level of placement.

It is such a relief because it is so much to ask of a 5 year old. I'm so proud of him and sort of can't tell him because I don't want to overemphasize what the testing is for (we said to find the right kindergarten, which is true I guess) and I still can't tell him where he is going to kindergarten. And in the 9 months since I started posting on this site - he has grown so much I now doubt these coveted schools will be enough. But I am so hopeful that he can meet some friends who will be peers rather than just age mates and that the schools maybe will have ways to accommodate him.

So today is a good day - until I go pick up from pre-k - first day back from break - and everyone has their results. Bracing for the awkward!!!
