It's so hard not to feel deflated when the experience of dealing with school and the matter of acceleration is treated with "Stop. We know best. We are the arbiters of what is best for students. Acceleration could be damaging. It should only be considered when all the stars are in alignment. Better to keep the kids plodding at the same glacial pace. Why mix it up when we're still clearly ranked 25th in math, 17th in science and 14th in reading worldwide?" Sigh.
