Hello all. I am new to this forum and excited about the wealth of information/experience available for me to peruse. I am looking forward to returning frequently as I made decisions about my 3 toddlers' up-coming school choices.

But, for today, I would like to make available an opportunity for you to support a gifted education private school in the Denver area. My sister is a teacher there, where they support an open environment and independent study for motivated learners in grades 3-8. They are seeking to expand to primary and high school grades, but want to keep teacher-student ratios as well as tuition as low as possible. They currently charge only $7,000 a year for most of their students. I think anyone would agree that this is an incredible value, as gifted education teachers tend to require higher, not lower, salaries. I have had the opportunity to observe their classroom environment and teaching styles, and as a gifted education veteran, a part of me longed that my parents could have found such a school for me growing up. I tested gifted in three different states and went through SPARK, AGATE and other gifted education programs, only to drop out of school by 9th grade, disillusioned and hell-bent on self educating.

When my sister approached me with the need to raise funds to expand the school's services to primary and high school grades, I was so excited to be able to apply my skills to help grow a service that I am so passionate about.

The auction will run through Monday, March 14th, and they have a broad range of about 175 items that were donated to raise funds for next year - anything from handmade African face masks to signed, limited edition art to iBooks and Leapster 2 gaming systems. You can check out their school website at www.wacr.org and their eBay store here. Most items have no reserve and can be picked up locally if you are in the area.

Thank you for your support and I look forward to reading/posting more on your forum!

I'm not in the local area but welcome to the board. I think it's a creative fundraiser and hope it's successful!
