My son was just accepted into a gifted middle school program in our community. He is an 11 yo 5th grader. The factors for entry are a qualifying WISC-IV score, SCAT score, SAGES score, and teacher recommendation. He currently attends a gifted program one day a week outside of his regular classroom.

In the acceptance letter, I was sent his SCAT score only. Not sure why the WISC and SAGES scores weren't included, especially since the WISC score is weighted. They double it's value when ranking the scores of the student's who were eligible for the program.

I'm trying to understand his SCAT scores with the information given in the acceptance letter. He was given the Intermediate form of the SCAT, usually given to students in grades 6-8.

The letter states that "For the purpose of comparison, 8th grade students who scored at the 50th percentile on this form of the SCAT have a score of 28/50 on the verbal section and 26/50 on the quantitative section."

My son scored 38 on the verbal section and 34 on the quantitative. Anyone have an insight on what his raw score would be? Or what this measures?

The 38/50 and 34/50 indicate that he performed considerably higher than the average 8th grader taking this test, who would have scored 28 and 26 respectively. This is an achievement test, so it is measuring acquired knowledge.
