I'm not sure what you mean L-mac. I don't really use scores, I sort of think about what contexts DS would fit in. Optimally Gifted is how I describe the bulk of kids in the local neighborhood gifted program (although not literally, becuase that was defunded 20 years ago, locally.) If one did exist, I'm pretty sure that DS would still 'stick out like a sore thumb' without a very talented and sympathetic teacher. So I think of kids who 'stick out' in a OG program as either HG or PG (although 2e issues can cause that also.) Davidson YSP is about the most generous definition of PG - and there is quite a range there, so I call kids who qualify for Davidson PG, and kids who don't but still have special educational needs that aren't being met in most OG programs as HG.
Giftedness is - to my mind - a relative term, because adults tend to expect the expected. So in a location where there are lots of 'high flyers' and a goodly number of PG kids, their needs are more likely to be met in the regular classroom even if there isn't a formal gifted program. I like the idea of 'lable the program, not the child' but don't think we are really there yet.
