    Hi All,

Reading everyone's posts here has been very enlightening! It has helped us tremendously in understanding our kids ... This is as close to the missing manuals as we could get smile

A little background... our DS10 has taken WISC-IV when he was 9. He also took SCAT last November and did really well. Now we're thinking about achievement test.

As we don't have access to EXPLORE in Bay Area (the closest one is in Sacramento), we contacted our principal to ask if the school can administer it. He said that he was not familiar with EXPLORE, but they do have WIAT-III that can be administered at no cost.

The psychologist that tested our DS suggested WIAT-II. It will cost $500 to have this done, though...

Does anyone mind sharing what they know about the differences / similarities between the two WIAT tests?

    Thanks in advance!

After contacting EVERY talent search listed at Davidson, we found our solution for the EXPLORE through the Belin-Blank Center's talent search:
    http://www.education.uiowa.edu/belinblank/TalentSearch/Default.aspx

They will allow you to do the test at your school, provided you can get a teacher, principal, etc., to serve as proctor. (Belin-Blank provides all the materials & instructions.)

Familiar environment & quick commute vs. strange environ and mind-numbing travel there & back.

Total cost is $75 or so.

    Win-win-win.

Thanks, Dandy. I've contacted Belin-Blank Center. Somebody is supposed to call tomorrow to provide the details. It does sound like a win-win-win!

In any case, does anyone know the difference between the WIAT-II and WIAT-III? Is the third one just the updated version with 3 new subtests? From the DYS website, they listed WIAT-II as acceptable test, but not WIAT-III.

I would contact DYS and ask.
    Good luck!

Got the reply from DYS. WIAT-III is acceptable achievement test. They just haven't updated their website yet.

Belin-Blank Center also sent the following information regarding EXPLORE test. We can have the so-called arranged testing. It means we need to find a non-family licensed teacher who is willing to be proctor. We can then register by phone, and the test material will be send to the teacher. The cost for arranged testing is $75 that also includes the shipping cost.
